Trick or Treating
We live on kind of a rural lane, so when Mira and
Lyra Meadow went out trick-or-treating, they could only reach about a dozen
houses. That would seem to bode ill for their receipts, but as it turns out,
each of those dozen houses only gets about 3 kids visiting, so they each deliver
a heck of a lot more than the one piece of candy per house I was accustomed to
as a kid. Full-size candy bars, stuffed animals, half a bag of peanut butter
cups... let's just say they did
OK.
Don't even get me started about
going to the mall and trick-or-treating at stores. This is the one time a year
where kids get to go around and meet all the neighbors, and distrust that causes
folks to not let their kids visit their neighbors is a cancer in the flesh of
society.
